Water Entering Basement: Protecting Your Home and Contents

Protecting Your Home from Water entering the Basement

Protecting your home from water intrusion and the resulting damages is the most important preventative measure homeowners take to ensure the safety and health of their homes and families.

At Statewide Basement Systems http://www.statewidebasements.com
you can find our contact info and call us for additional information and strategies for your home or property.

One of the problems faced by many are the continual dampness or water leaks and intrusions into the home which provide a wet environment in which molds grow and proliferate very easily and quickly.

Organic matter will provide sustenance for the growth of mild colonies and must be removed to prevent the further growth and spread of the mold. In addition, once the mold is disturbed it can become airborne and naturally travel throughout the home effecting (IAQ) Indoor Air Quality. The spread of airborne spores can also be quickened through mechanical means as it is pushed through the ductwork in the home.

Home Inspections 101: Mold, Water, & Basement Waterproofing

Our grandparents dealt with asbestos, parents, and radon when buying a home. Those are still factors but today we have mold to contend with when purchasing a property. The countless examples of health ailments and even fatalities related to mold exposure are terribly disconcerting.

The basement waterproofing system, aka "drain-tile system" installed by Statewide Basement Systems, will provide a proper solution for water & moisture problems in the crawlspace & basement.

When soils have been taxed to the point where the soils ability to percolate at a fairly quick pace the groundwater naturally goes to the next available area offering the least resistance. Since cement is porous and many of our homes' foundations are sub-grade, they provide an obvious place to infiltrate.

The pressure continues to build in a particularly "wet" event (rainstorm or snow thaw), hence, a more forceful pressure is exerted against the foundation or buildings footprint.

Crawlspaces are sometimes overlooked
by home inspectors, so be sure your inspector has
done a thorough inspection and you are fully informed.
Nobody likes surprises, especially after the purchase of a
property.

Other questions you might want to ask:

Is the work guaranteed?

How long has the company been in business?

Do you have the necessary insurance to perform the work on my home?

Perhaps obvious questions to many, but some folks still do not ask these basic questions of their Home Inspectors.

If you have a question we can help with please call us at 845-635-8084.

Protecting Property: Water Damage,Mold, Energy Savings, BasementWaterproofing

Protecting Your Property from Water and Energy Loss

Are we safe from floods and water intrusions in the winter months?
We must be safe...is a commonly held misconception.
The fact is we are not protected from water intrusions, in our homes simply because of the beautiful and cold winter weather we enjoy in the Northeastern United States.
Basement waterproofing, Crawlspace Encapsulation, Spray Foam Insulation, in addition to restoration and remodeling services are popular, although not always welcome, Home Improvement services, during the winter months.
Much planning and preparation goes into the remodeling process. There are times when an underlying and pressing challenge, (rotting floor joists due to water damage, for example) is discovered at an inopportune time, such as the holidays, and the process of remediation and remodeling is thrust into action, with an understandably palpable sense of urgency. Who wants to be left without a kitchen, especially during the holidays?
The acumen of the experienced professional is always greatly appreciated during these unusual and disruptive times.

If you own investment property or your own home, it is in your best interest to understand the numerous health risks, liabilities, and structural risks associated with a damp or wet Crawlspace, various Molds, Wet or damp Basement conditions. Basement waterproofing and Crawlspace encapsulation is often essential to protect your property by providing the relief of the incredibly damaging effects of hydrostatic pressure bearing against the foundation walls of your property. Floors are also susceptible to hydrostatic pressure and may also be alleviated with the relief provided by a basement waterproofing system, sometimes called a drain tile waterproofing application.

There are various types of flooding that can effect your property. Statewide Basement Systems™ and SBS HomeSolutions™ can provide the knowledge and experience to protect and/or remodel your property. Best of all, each of our processes incorporates our exclusive GreenSmartENERGY™ process which allows for building envelope analysis to be performed on the entire new construction project, or to a smaller scale project such as a bathroom, kitchen, or basement remodel allowing for the most efficient site preparation and material selection. Once the analysis has been completed, we make a detailed plan. Then we begin a smart, energy-saving renovation, basement waterproofing, or SBS SprayFoamEnergy application, that will serve the home and you over the long-term. Our HomeEnergyWizard™ Services has been developed over several rigorous years of real world, energy saving, applications, ongoing field tests and repeated analysis.

The energy consumed by a home or building that has received as little as on one of the SBS HomeEnergyWizard™ Services has shown remarkable energy efficiency improvements, increased savings of non-renewable resources, reduced utilities bills, as well as increased comfort levels and overall building efficacy.

Basement Waterproofing, Wet Westchester

Weather patterns have invited unprecedented levels of water into the ground throughout Westchester County, NY, and surrounding areas. Basements have been inundated with water as soils are saturated and cannot percolate quickly enough to offset the heavy levels of water.

As far as Statewide Basement Systems is concerned, our homes need to be protected. The interior perimeter system is very popular to stem water intrusion due to high water tables and hydrostatic pressure because we can gauge the water levels based on damage and various indicators present inside and outside the homes foundation.

In New York, Dutchess, Orange, and Westchester counties have been hit considerably hard, with NYC and Long Island, naturally at the too of the list.
Fairfield county, Connecticut, has also seen vast damage. In addition to more obvious areas yo be greatly effected along the coast, during Hurricane Sandy, many of the interior saw considerable water intrusions in foundation walls and crawlspaces.

If you are in need of Professional Waterproofing and Crawlspace Encapsulation Services Call Statewide Basement Systems Today. We would love to hear from you. 845 635 3040

Wet Basement: What Lurks Beneath?

Basement_Waterproofing_StatewideBasements.com/mold_sheetrock/
Mold growing on sheetrock
When contemplating your basement waterproofing project, remember this.

All people want a healthy home to enjoy.

The time we spend at home with our families, loved ones, and pets is precious. It is frightening how quickly unhealthy conditions can occur in our homes. Often, water seeps into the foundation and allows for a wet basement. It does not have to be a flood. Mold colonies grow and spread with just a small amount of moisture and organic material (sheetrock or wood). Provide the right temperature, and you might as well grab your lab coat and petri dishes.

Just be thankful that the above photo is not the scratch-n-sniff variety.

Mold growths often flourish quickly and can release harmful mycotoxins into the air that we breathe. Some are toxic and others are not. Regardless, even non-toxic mold species cause horrible health ailments for many individuals, particularly those with a predisposition to a certain allergy or illness. Elderly folks as well as youngsters, often face more difficult challenges when faced with these less than ideal environmental changes. Outdoors, molds' will release the same toxic mycotoxins, but there is enough airspace to offset the ill effects.
Not surprisingly, perhaps, the indoor environment is another matter entirely, presenting possible dire consequences.

Fortunately, we have learned much about the dangers over the past decade as our medical and scientific communities have spent a good amount of time and resources investigating and analyzing data and conducting vast experiments which have yielded valuable information on the long ignored topic.

Some continue to ignore the problem. Hoping the water that entered the home's basement or crawlspace, will not harm them, and subside.

This is simply not the case.

As we know, this can lead to a number of unhealthy effects on those who inhabit the home, as well as, the home's structural integrity and value. The home's comfort level will also be noticeably changed. Smells, unpleasant sights, and damaged items are just a few of the welcome examples after the basement waterproofing system has been installed. One of the most important factors to consider, when facing water damage from a wet basement, is IAQ indoor air quality.

Many of us, unknowingly exacerbate the risks to our families and home, by closing the doors and windows and air conditioning our sealed homes. The problem is we have also increased the rate at which detrimental particulate matter travels in the air we breathe. This poor indoor air being circulated consists of unhealthy airborne particulate matter originating from the damp wet basement, where the the mold has taken root and is thriving. Often the mold  is not visible  because it loves the dark (interior wall space), and eats the paper-faced gypsum board in the privacy of the hollows of the walls in your home. Many homeowners, falsely breathe a sigh of relief after a quick water intrusion incident, that produces no "visible" mold. Therefore,  the mold colonies are left to thrive in the basement and only further investigated, when someone  develops cold symptoms or nagging headaches, sinuses, sore throats which  become common health impediments.

To stop mold and unhealthy wet basements you must stop the water.
Your wet basement or crawlspace should not be ignored any longer.
