No More Wet Basement! NY Basement Makeovers

After Statewide Basement Systems installed Basement Waterproofing System
NY WET BASEMENTS AFTER THE THAW from this historical winters' excessive precipitation, many New York & CT  homeowners had the sometimes difficult task of selecting a reliable waterproofing contractor to whom they felt they could trust, would be ethical, informed, & reasonably priced. And naturally, get the job done right the first time!

Statewide Basement Systems, Pleasant Valley, NY was pleased and honored to be chosen by so many of our troubled citizens, neighbors, and friends in making their homes whole again.
Homeowners from Westchester County, Putnam, Orange, and, of course, our hometown Dutchess County were served well and  are now enjoying the benefits of our SBS Basement Waterproofing System.

We were also able to provide remodeling services, apply energy efficient spray foam insulation, and replace old inefficient windows and doors. The cumulative effect really does provide a "Green Friendly" solution for our environment while helping to save considerably on our utility bills.

SBS has two decades of experience and has seen most everything when it comes to poor home construction design and building practices and the dangerous effects water intrusions and dampness can inflict on a building including its air quality (IAQ).

What exactly is happening to my Wet Basement?
When a basement floods or leaks due to foundation or slab  failure as a result of hydrostatic pressure a drain tile system is frequently  the solution. A drain tile system allows for the foundation to "breathe" or release pressure from the excess moisture that has built and is exerting pressure against  the foundation floor walls of the basement. This occurs as a result of the hydrostatic pressure that has built-up due to rainfall, springs, and snow thaws. The water introduced into the home/buildings surrounding environment (soil, earth, shale, rocks, etc.) filling the surrounding soil and not allowing proper percolation to occur as quickly as needed.

Perfect time for Improving the Basement

Statewide Basement Waterproofing Systems and Avoiding Mold Risks & Mycotoxins

Mold Hazards, Wet Basement Waterproofing System

Keeping Your Home above Water

Basement waterproofing systems are designed to alleviate hydrostatic pressure and direct water outside the home and protect the interior space. Indoor air quality is also enhanced when humidity levels and potential for mold growth is diminished by getting rid of the water.
After all, water, organic material, and heat can produce alot of mold colonies quickly. The mold colonies are then spreading by eating the cellulose, organic matter, such as paper faced gypsum or sheetrock, and other organic materials that we build homes with and stuff in our storage nooks and basements. Not to mention the many porous furniture materials, along with wood and cloth. Mold absolutely loves this stuff.

When people are around toxic mold they are exposed to airborne mycotoxins by breathing. These mycotoxins end up in the lungs and cause breathing problems and other severe symptoms. Mycotoxins are toxins produced by certain species of mold. These mycotoxins are some of the most toxic substances in existence. To make matters more difficult, mycotoxins (.01 microns) are smaller than mold spores and spores are roughly 1 to 10 microns, and invisible to the naked eye. By comparison, a human hair is 100 microns.

When one considers the risks of living in the home after a water event like flooding or plumbing leak or break, or hydrostatic pressure forcing the foundation walls of the basement to leak water into the building envelope through capillary action, it is smart to call a professional waterproofing and mold removal, remediation company and leave the home until the water and mold have been properly remediated.

If you have a water or mold problem and would like help, give Statewide Basement Systems a Call Today. You will be glad you did. 845 635 3040.

Basement Waterproofing: Beating the Water Damage

Waterproofing Basement Before Water Damage Occurs

There are few things more frustrating than cleaning up after a water event and living with the aftermath of damp, moldy, and smelly conditions. One way to avoid this frustration is to protect your home and one of your biggest investments prior to a water event.

Securing your property against the damaging effects of water intrusion is of the utmost importance. Protection from water with an SBS Home Waterproofing System is a proven method of effectively securing your home or office building from the damaging effects of water intrusion.

"Creating Dry Healthy Homes"

This is a safe and cost-effective method that will provide a proper water mitigation system that will keep the property dry in the snow thaws and rainstorms that wreak havoc on so many homes.

If you notice a white, powdery substance on the walls or floors of your foundation, you should have a professional waterproofing company inspect the situation. This is one of the signs of water intrusion through cement. Efflorescence is caused by the acidity contained in the water that is making its way through the foundation by way of hydrostatic pressure. This pressure is exerted by the build up of pressure around the foundation walls and cement floor slab when the surrounding earth has been saturated with water and can longer percolate the ground water efficiently. The resulting hydrostatic pressure  forces the groundwater through cracks and fissures , through the cement walls, mortar joints, etc. and produces this crystallized, sometimes chalky substance on the surface of the basement wall and/or floor.

Colors can vary based on various conditions and elements present at your property.

The relief valve effect is provided by Statewide Basement Systems Home Waterproofing System by way of a 4" conduit which allows for groundwater to be navigated away, thus releasing the hydrostatic pressure from the walls and floor, thus reducing this damaging effects of water intrusion into the home as well as to the structural integrity of your home.

It is amazing to see how great the pressure can be given particular conditions, such as type of soil, fill, etc. surrounding the home.

If you have been faced with a water damage, mold, water intrusion event or related challenge, and would like our help, Call SBS at 845 635 3040. We look forward to serving you.

Wet Basement: What Lurks Beneath?

Basement_Waterproofing_StatewideBasements.com/mold_sheetrock/
Mold growing on sheetrock
When contemplating your basement waterproofing project, remember this.

All people want a healthy home to enjoy.

The time we spend at home with our families, loved ones, and pets is precious. It is frightening how quickly unhealthy conditions can occur in our homes. Often, water seeps into the foundation and allows for a wet basement. It does not have to be a flood. Mold colonies grow and spread with just a small amount of moisture and organic material (sheetrock or wood). Provide the right temperature, and you might as well grab your lab coat and petri dishes.

Just be thankful that the above photo is not the scratch-n-sniff variety.

Mold growths often flourish quickly and can release harmful mycotoxins into the air that we breathe. Some are toxic and others are not. Regardless, even non-toxic mold species cause horrible health ailments for many individuals, particularly those with a predisposition to a certain allergy or illness. Elderly folks as well as youngsters, often face more difficult challenges when faced with these less than ideal environmental changes. Outdoors, molds' will release the same toxic mycotoxins, but there is enough airspace to offset the ill effects.
Not surprisingly, perhaps, the indoor environment is another matter entirely, presenting possible dire consequences.

Fortunately, we have learned much about the dangers over the past decade as our medical and scientific communities have spent a good amount of time and resources investigating and analyzing data and conducting vast experiments which have yielded valuable information on the long ignored topic.

Some continue to ignore the problem. Hoping the water that entered the home's basement or crawlspace, will not harm them, and subside.

This is simply not the case.

As we know, this can lead to a number of unhealthy effects on those who inhabit the home, as well as, the home's structural integrity and value. The home's comfort level will also be noticeably changed. Smells, unpleasant sights, and damaged items are just a few of the welcome examples after the basement waterproofing system has been installed. One of the most important factors to consider, when facing water damage from a wet basement, is IAQ indoor air quality.

Many of us, unknowingly exacerbate the risks to our families and home, by closing the doors and windows and air conditioning our sealed homes. The problem is we have also increased the rate at which detrimental particulate matter travels in the air we breathe. This poor indoor air being circulated consists of unhealthy airborne particulate matter originating from the damp wet basement, where the the mold has taken root and is thriving. Often the mold  is not visible  because it loves the dark (interior wall space), and eats the paper-faced gypsum board in the privacy of the hollows of the walls in your home. Many homeowners, falsely breathe a sigh of relief after a quick water intrusion incident, that produces no "visible" mold. Therefore,  the mold colonies are left to thrive in the basement and only further investigated, when someone  develops cold symptoms or nagging headaches, sinuses, sore throats which  become common health impediments.

To stop mold and unhealthy wet basements you must stop the water.
Your wet basement or crawlspace should not be ignored any longer.
