SNOW & BASEMENT & CRAWLSPACE WATER LEAKS

Uwanted water leaking into our home is frustrating to say the least. In addition, this winter has already proven to be a formidable one. The problem for many unprotected homeowners is waiting to get hit with a deluge of ground water as the snow melts.

Look at it out the window. Innocent enough, right? Picturesque even.
A Winter Wonderland?

Imagine the thousands of gallons of that white water just sitting around & on top of our homes, just waiting for the slightest bit of sun to begin making its way into the ground and through the foundation,  covering the entire floor with water, wicking up through the Sheetrock, destroying paper & organic goods, ruining finished living space, or increasing humidity to unhealthy levels. In addition a wet or damp basement disrupts our busy lives and flow of the household. And if you were considering selling and moving, that is a real burden. Prospective buyers are very apprehensive about wet and damp basements and crawlspaces.

The possibility of toxic mold being present scares anyone. The idea that your wet basement is a recurring problem, that you're trying to unload on them to deal with every time it rains, is a scenario they would just as soon pass on.
As the freshly melted snow percolates into the earth, the idyllic winter scene around your home begins to change.

Slowly the foundation walls begin to feel the hydrostatic pressure, the concrete slab resists for a time, but it's futile. The concrete is after all, porous.
The earthen crawlspace gradually becomes muddy & wet. In short order, foul smells emanate from the wet, damp basement and crawlspace that lie below the living space. The Indoor Air Quality has been altered. Extra storage space now compromised. Laundry rooms, kids play rooms, pool room, "man" caves, etc. compromised.

What an unpleasant scenario. Fortunately, there is a solution in Statewide Basement Systems,Inc., located in NY and serving Dutchess, Putnam, Westchester, and Ulster Counties, and Faitfield County, CT.

No wonder so many people throughout the Hudson Valley, NY & CT, continue to rely on Statewide Basement Systems to provide professional Basement Waterproofing solutions to make their home dry & healthy.

Waterproofing Basement & Foundations

Fall rains can be relaxing and soothing to listen to while relaxing near a crackling fire or enjoying the magnificent views of the Fall foliage of the Hudson River Valley. But if water infiltrates your homes foundation walls, it quickly loses its allure.

Often times, the water that percolates down through the soil surrounding a home's foundation, will not immediately pose a problem to the foundation walls or the basements concrete slab.

Over time, however, the damaging effects can quietly build unnoticed and travel through capillary action occurring below grade level. The water travels toward the low points of the home. Enough hydrostatic pressure is produced to permeate the slab and or the walls or even the soil in a cellar or boiler room and humidity levels begin to increase.

"No problem" you might say. I'll buy a dehumidifier. Now you begin to pay to run the unit and it is drawing the water through the concrete walls and floor faster than it was before.

Installing a professional Basement Waterproofing System is not only a necessary healthful home improvement it is a value added improvement to your home.

Home Inspections 101: Mold, Water, & Basement Waterproofing

Our grandparents dealt with asbestos, parents, and radon when buying a home. Those are still factors but today we have mold to contend with when purchasing a property. The countless examples of health ailments and even fatalities related to mold exposure are terribly disconcerting.

The basement waterproofing system, aka "drain-tile system" installed by Statewide Basement Systems, will provide a proper solution for water & moisture problems in the crawlspace & basement.

When soils have been taxed to the point where the soils ability to percolate at a fairly quick pace the groundwater naturally goes to the next available area offering the least resistance. Since cement is porous and many of our homes' foundations are sub-grade, they provide an obvious place to infiltrate.

The pressure continues to build in a particularly "wet" event (rainstorm or snow thaw), hence, a more forceful pressure is exerted against the foundation or buildings footprint.

Crawlspaces are sometimes overlooked
by home inspectors, so be sure your inspector has
done a thorough inspection and you are fully informed.
Nobody likes surprises, especially after the purchase of a
property.

Other questions you might want to ask:

Is the work guaranteed?

How long has the company been in business?

Do you have the necessary insurance to perform the work on my home?

Perhaps obvious questions to many, but some folks still do not ask these basic questions of their Home Inspectors.

If you have a question we can help with please call us at 845-635-8084.

No More Wet Basement! NY Basement Makeovers

After Statewide Basement Systems installed Basement Waterproofing System
NY WET BASEMENTS AFTER THE THAW from this historical winters' excessive precipitation, many New York & CT  homeowners had the sometimes difficult task of selecting a reliable waterproofing contractor to whom they felt they could trust, would be ethical, informed, & reasonably priced. And naturally, get the job done right the first time!

Statewide Basement Systems, Pleasant Valley, NY was pleased and honored to be chosen by so many of our troubled citizens, neighbors, and friends in making their homes whole again.
Homeowners from Westchester County, Putnam, Orange, and, of course, our hometown Dutchess County were served well and  are now enjoying the benefits of our SBS Basement Waterproofing System.

We were also able to provide remodeling services, apply energy efficient spray foam insulation, and replace old inefficient windows and doors. The cumulative effect really does provide a "Green Friendly" solution for our environment while helping to save considerably on our utility bills.

SBS has two decades of experience and has seen most everything when it comes to poor home construction design and building practices and the dangerous effects water intrusions and dampness can inflict on a building including its air quality (IAQ).

What exactly is happening to my Wet Basement?
When a basement floods or leaks due to foundation or slab  failure as a result of hydrostatic pressure a drain tile system is frequently  the solution. A drain tile system allows for the foundation to "breathe" or release pressure from the excess moisture that has built and is exerting pressure against  the foundation floor walls of the basement. This occurs as a result of the hydrostatic pressure that has built-up due to rainfall, springs, and snow thaws. The water introduced into the home/buildings surrounding environment (soil, earth, shale, rocks, etc.) filling the surrounding soil and not allowing proper percolation to occur as quickly as needed.

Perfect time for Improving the Basement

Winter and Basement Waterproofing

Winter weather can be enjoyable but not when it causes basement flooding due to snow thaw.

Many times the ground is saturated around the foundation or building envelope and water is pressed into small capillaries in the ground during a process called "hydrostatic pressure."
Basement waterproofing can alleviate this pressure and provide you and your family with the healthy useable space you have always wanted. In addition, you can have Statewide Basement Systems apply Energy saving spray foam insulation into your home providing comfort and reducing heating and cooling costs.
Floor joists above crawlspace being sprayed with closed cell spray foam insulation.

If you think you would benefit from SBS's energy saving insulation or basement Waterproofing and Crawlspace Encapsulation services, give us a call. You'll be glad you did.

This particular crawlspace was filled to the joists with building materials, wet insulation and other debris. It was a tough job, dirty, uncomfortable job. The tight space to  move around under the home to get to much of the debris required literally crawling through dirt. Junk Away USA, Junk Removal & Property Maintenance  always takes care of us. Great service, including landscaping, powerwashing, moving heavy items, cleanouts, and so  much more. Junk Away USA are a Hudson Valley family business. If you have work that needs to be done Do Not Hesitate to call them. They are THE BEST! 845 635 JUNK

Hydrostatic Pressure, Rainfall, & Basement Waterproofing

http://www.StatewideBasements.com
The rainfall has finally backed off for the day, well this part I the day at least. It has been an unofficial deluge in New York and Connecticut basements the past few days.

The sump pumps and generators can be heard protecting the many homes protected by basement waterproofing systems and back up generators. The ground becomes inundated with water and can no longer percolate properly. The hydrostatic pressure then builds against the foundation floor and walls and exerts itself against our homes, until it finally makes its way inside.

And then, the problems really begin. Water damage left for more than 24 hours can really begin to cause problems.

If you have been effected by water damage and want to resolve the problem once and for all, Call the Basement Waterproofing Professionals at Statewide Basement Systems. 845-635-3040
